It’s amazing how well even Early Access games can sell these days. Over at Bohemia Interactive CEO Marek Spanel’s personal blog, he announced that the stand alone version of DayZ has sold over 172,500 copies in just 24 hours since the release of the alpha build. Seems like the appeal of both open world, survival and zombies games is still going strong. Not only that, but that gamers are becoming more open to buying early builds of games.
They’re also taking a bit of a chance. Bohemia Interactive states that this is an early alpha of Day Z, with features missing and various bugs and glitches littered throughout the game. So the experience isn’t going to be perfect. Despite that, it seems people aren’t bothered by that. As evidenced by the numbers, they’re willing to pay just to get a taste of what’s to come. That may be a while, since the Steam product page says it may be a year before the beta is released.
If the wait and threat of bugs and glitches don’t put you off, you can open up Steam and purchase DayZ as an early access game for $29.99. There’s also a special “Supporter Edition” of the game being sold on Bohemia Interactive’s store for 58.18 Euros ($79.56). This version includes access to the DayZ supporters forums lounge, Arma 2 Complete Collection Steam code and a digital map of Chernarus.
