Oh Activision, you always make these Skylanders games so hard to resist. It’s not enough that each installment seems to read our minds in terms of what new content we want in the game. You also have to do things like offer a figure to anyone who decides to pre-order Skylanders Trap Team. That’s just cruel. Activision is diabolically crafty and cruel.
Now, Gearshift isn’t a pre-order exclusive, Skylanders Trap Team figure. She will eventually be made available to everyone to buy and enjoy in their games. The catch is, if you don’t commit to a 3DS, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, or Wii U copy of the game quickly, you won’t get her until next year. Activision has stated that the number of pre-order Gear Shift figures will be limited, and people who delay when placing orders or don’t buy the game new will get nothing.
Instead, they’ll have to wait all the way until 2015 to get Gearshift. That’s when she’s scheduled to make her official debut. I told you Activision was being all crafty about this. Of course, given that Skylanders Trap Team won’t be released until October 5, 2014, I suppose the wait for Gearshift to appear in stores won’t be too long.
The biggest news about Gearshift is that the press release makes her sound like a Trap Team character. That’s one of the more expensive figures that comes with a crystal and has the ability to capture boss monsters. This is just my interpretation, though, since the official “story” that accompanies her specifically says, “Gearshift was made part of the Trap Team.” It’s enough to make me place a pre-order with Amazon… now. Done!
