The LEGO Movie was released today on DVD and Blu-ray, but your LEGO fix doesn’t have to end there. You can also participate in the open beta for LEGO Minifigures Online. The beta can now be downloaded by anyone who cares to try it out. The download isn’t terribly large either. You will need to make an account to start playing, but that doesn’t take long either.

LEGO Minifigures Online is a MMO created by Funcom. When you start out, you’ll be given the opportunity to choose between three different teams. Each team contains three starting minifigures, and you can find more along the way. The team I chose had minifigures of different specialties. I had what is basically a brute, a ranged attacker and a fast builder. Additional figures can either be found or purchased using premium currency. As with most F2P games, premium currency can also be obtained with real money.

The least you can spend on diamonds is $4.99 for 1,250 diamonds. The most you can spend is $30 for 9,000 diamonds. A new minifigure will cost you around $3 – just like a real world minifigure. There are also optional subscription tiers that start at $7.99 a month. These tiers offer bonuses such as a free in-game minifigure every month, in-game chat, 50 diamonds a week, faster respawn times and access to Pocket Adventures quests.
