We interrupt these 4th of July festivities for a very important announcement. The Mario Kart 8 Happy Meal toys are now at McDonald’s. I repeat, McDonald’s has the little Mario Kart 8 toys! It isn’t a drill, the toys are going to go fast, so hurry and get out there!
I discovered the appearance of the Mario Kart 8 toys by chance. They were revealed as the next Happy Meal toy in June, but McDonald’s didn’t have an official launch date. I just happened to stop by my local restaurant for a smoothie and saw Mario’s face smiling back at me.
You can get the Mario Kart 8 racers alone, or in a Happy Meal. With a Happy Meal, it’s $2.99. However, some McDonald’s stores will sell the toy alone for $1-1.50. Make sure you say that you want the Mario Kart 8 “boy’s” toy, or else you might get stuck with a Teenie Beanie Boo plushie.
As for the toys themselves, I’m actually impressed. The Mario that I got has a pretty decent paint job. It’s a little disconcerting to see his torso permanently attached to the car, with no sign of his lower body, but it’s a cute novelty nonetheless.
And remember, you only have until July 31, 2014 to buy the game, register it with Club Nintendo, and get a free copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, or Wii Party U.
