Well, this is just great. Who’s bright idea was it to encourage the Sharknado fad by making a video game based on it? Majesco? Figures. Because capitalizing on ridiculous things is pretty much a way of life, Majesco and Other Ocean are going to be releasing Sharknado: The Video Game alongside the SyFy made-for-TV movie later this month.
Of course, Sharknado: The Video Game is an endless runner for iOS devices. Players control Ian “Fin” Ziering as he wields various weapons, like swords and chainsaws, and runs through New York. He’s running into the sharks and tornadoes, because that’s the only thing that makes sense in this kind of situation.
I really hate to say this, not because I want the fad to continue, but because it doesn’t sound right. The whole Sharknado concept has jumped the shark. The first movie was magic in a so-bad-it’s-good sort of way. Mainly because it just happened. But now, everyone’s trying to emulate it and do it again, and the results are, and will continue to be, disastrous. I think we should all hunker down in a shelter and wait for this storm to pass over.
I guess we’ll just have to weather the storm that will be Sharknado 2: The Second One and Sharknado: The Video Game when it happens on July 30, 2014 and hope it bombs so SyFy and Majesco don’t make any more. Because really, we don’t need any more of this.
