It would be like if Lucasfilm hired a new CEO named Vader. Or a guy named Satan became Pope… Nintendo of America announced Thursday that it has named a new vice president of sales, and his name is Bowser.
Doug Bowser, who will oversee such functions as sales, in-store merchandising, retail strategy and retail marketing, is not to be confused with a different Bowser, the evil fire-breathing turtle and “King of the Koopas” who for more than 30 years has been the primary antagonist in the Super Mario universe.
That irony was not lost on NIntendo in their preparing of the press release.
“Nintendo of America has hired a new Vice President to lead the United States sales organization with a name that’s well-known in the Mushroom Kingdom. Effective today, Doug Bowser (no relation to the King Koopa and Mario’s longtime nemesis) will oversee a variety of sales-related functions,” Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, to whom Bowser will report, said in a statement released by the company.
Bowser had worked for Electronic Arts since 2007.
The new executive will be based not in Bowser’s Castle, but rather in Redmond, Wash.
