Sega’s had it hard the past few years, and no one’s had it harder than their mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog. Between lousy games, lousy marketing, and even more lousy games, Sega and Sonic has been losing fans and money left, right, and center. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few games that people wouldn’t mind seeing Sonic be part of. And thus, Nintendo has announced Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
In the latest Nintendo Direct video, it was announced that Mario and Sonic would once again kick up their life-long rivalry and battle it out via the medium of sports in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.. It’s probably better than that totally biased Death Battle video that came out a while back.
They also announced that the Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games game will be released on both the Wii U and the 3DS, with each version again having a few different games. The 3DS will focus on more hand-held friendly games such as table top tennis, where as the Wii U version will focus on sports like rugby. Because when a heavy-set plumber plays a hedgehog in a game of rugby, obviously the two opponents are perfectly, equally matched, right? Right.
In any case, there’s been no official release date announced, though given Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is very specifically tied to the 2016 Olympic games, I’d put money on the chance that it’s going to be released some time in 2016. Not a lot of money, to be fair, but at least some.
