Persona 4 Arena Ultimax may not be the biggest name at EVO this year, but publisher Atlus is adding $10,000 to the prize pool as an incentive for more entrants. Last year, Atlus added a tenth of that amount to the prize pool for Persona 4 Arena’s side tournament. Ultimax only had a demo build at the time to show off recently announced characters like Rise Kujikawa and Ken Amada.
With any luck, this bonus to Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’s prize pool will entice more players to attend. I visit Dustloop pretty regularly, and as it stands a lot of well-known Japanese Ultimax players will attend EVO this year. The list includes notables like Souji and a top 8 payer at EVO 2013, DIE-chan. American Utimax players like Anne and Bananaken have a thread to help the American scene contend with the incoming Japanese pros.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will be using the current console build. There has been a 2.0 patch in arcades for several months now, but there has been no news of it making it to consoles, Japanese or otherwise. Despite Guilty Gear Xrd updating to match arcades in time for EVO, this has received no such update. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax‘s EVO main stage debut will take place on the PS3, as there is no XBox 360 version in Japan.
