Arc System Works is best known for their work in the 2D fighting genre, with titles like Guilty Gear and Battle Fantasia under their belt. But Arc System Works has been making headlines as of late with both a localization of their upcoming Dragon Ball Z Extreme Budoten and the company’s acquisition of Technos Japan Corp’s intangible properties, which include Double Dragon and River City Ransom. The most recent piece of news came when the company’s Twitter account posted the murky image at the head of this article, and hinting at a release on Steam.
Arc System Works’ most recent Steam release was the latest entry in the Guilty Gear XX series, XX Accent Core +R. The mouthful of a title came due to fan demand to port more of their games to PC for netplay purposes. Given the FGC hashtag in the recent Tweet, it’s fair to say that Arc System Works intends to put more fighting games on Steam for our pleasure.
The question now is, what title may that be? If it’s not a new IP, then the most likely picks would Arc System Works’ flagship franchises, Guilty Gear Xrd and the latest update for Blazblue, Chrono Phantasma Extend, which is set to be released on June 30, 2015. The Twitter account has said no to Xrd and, given that Guilty Gear Xrd is scheduled for an arcade update with the subtitle Revelator, Blazblue: Chrono Phantasma Extend seems to be the more likely of the two. Another possible pick is French Bread’s project, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late, which came to the PS3, and whose title resembles the font used in the tweet. Of course, Arc System Works could throw us a curveball and port the rad 2D fighter based off of the Double Dragon movie instead. It was the only decent thing to come out of that movie!
