It has been half a decade of free games and good times with PlayStation Plus memberships. PS Plus members have had access to a whopping 350 games on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and the Vita since 2010. In June 2015 for example, we got Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, Skulls of the Shogun: Bona Fide Edition, Super Exploding Zoo, Futuridium EP Deluxe, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger and Cloudberry Kingdom.
Those that have been members since day one will receive a special limited edition gift. It seems like yesterday I heard this announced at E3 and knew it was something I had to have. Now like the games I buy during Steam sales, I haven’t even played many of them. They’re still awesome to have and like my Steam backlog, I’ll get to it. I swear.
PlayStation Plus changed the industry, as Microsoft’s customers demanded the same type of service. Thus Games With Gold was born. EA is offering a similar program with EA Access, which includes a Vault of free games it periodically adds to. They’re not shovelware, either. The most recent editions of Madden NFL and FIFA are included.
Sony started all this five years ago, building up goodwill that has helped it take an early lead in console sales. Giving people rewards for their brand loyalty, what a concept!
