Gamertell Arm Spirit Arcade Game Japan

Tokyo, Japan, based Atlus, Co. has done something pretty unique for an arcade and console game maker – actually broken a few bones.

The company has recalled 150 units of its standup arcade game, Arm Spirit, after three gamers reported breaking their arms. From the AP article:

“The machine isn’t that strong, much less so than a muscular man. Even women should be able to beat it,” said Atlus spokeswoman Ayano Sakiyama, calling the recall “a precaution.”

Nice gender sensitivity there, eh?

From the photo, the game appears to have a mechanical arm and a faux metal barrel where gamers can place and elbow and live out their Over the Top fantasies. It was out only a month and included 10 levels of opponents such as a French maid, a dog, a druken martial arts expert and, the final level, a pro arm wrestler.

“We think that maybe some players get overexcited and twist their arms in an unnatural way,” the rep added.

Maybe it’s excitement, pride or all those fast food chains invading the country are aren’t providing as much calcium as fresh fish bones. (Damn Western foods).
