Ceramic White PS2 bundle

SCEA has announced plans for a limited edition bundle of a Ceramic White PS2, karaoke title SingStar Pop and two USB microphones. The bundle will be available in November 2007 for a suggested retail of $149.99 in the US and $159.99 in Canada.

SingStar Pop is the second release in the popular new franchise. According to the press release sent August 29, 2007, it features

“real songs from current chart-topping stars and pop legends including Alicia Keys, U2, Rihanna, Ashlee Simpson, The All-American Rejects and The Clash. With microphones in hand, aspiring pop stars can put on a concert in their living rooms by performing along with their favorite artists, singing duets and one-on-one battles, and even singing with up to eight players in a “Pass-the-Mic” social frenzy”,

The whole package is part of Sony’s attempt to cash in on a piece of the casual pie, which Sony is calling the “social game phenomena.” While only the hardcore gamers will plop down the better part of a grand for the high-end PS3 and a game or two, the PS2 continues to be a major crowd pleaser. There’s even a quote from Jack Tretton (Sony’s CEO) extolling the virtues of the PS2 as an “incredible offering for first time gaming families”. Watch out, Nintendo.
