Sony has just announced that it will be shipping the world’s first HD Video Walkman this September (2007). The device is a compact , portable and capable of viewing and playing back both high-definition video and standard mini DV tapes
For added convenience, users can assign any of the 14 commonly-used functions such as search, index mark and playback zoom, to three function buttons as well as customize the LCD screen by storing up to six set-ups. The unit’s status check mode gives handy on-screen confirmation of key audio, output, assigned and LCD settings.
The monitor of the GV-HD700 features a WVGA 7-inch wide screen at 1,152k dots per inch to ensure 100 percent of the recorded frame area is displayed on the screen for accuracy. This will allow owners to review shots, record HDV and DV signals from external sources, transfer still images from tapes to meory stick media cards. The model is equipped with multiple ports for recording and playing tapes from a variety of sources and also has HDMI output for connection to a compatible television or computer monitor. The Walkman incorporates Sony X.v. Color technology with the new international xvTCC color standard that nearly doubles the range of colors available on televisions.
The walkman will cost about $1,300 at Sony Style retail stores and at authorized dealers worldwide. Pre-orders are currently only available on the Sony Style website. The Walkman comes with an AC Adapter, wireless remote controller, component cable and AV MultiCable (without S video). The device can be used with InfoLITHIUM® L and M Series batteries.
