This has to be one of the weirdest bits o’ swag I’ve received from Nintendo. Well, except maybe the Brain Age brain snowglobe.
To help promote the Touch Generation-branded lineup of games, Nintendo sent members of the media a laminated placemat featuring a TV dinner style tray made up of a Thanksgiving feast” turkey, mashed potatoes, peas, carrots, corn, cranberry sauce (maybe), stuffing (aka dressing) and pie. As a nice touch they also printed the image of a woven wicker (or maybe bamboo) placemat behind it.
Of course, in true PR style, each item has a Nintendo twist. On the turkey and mashed potatoes is gravy spelling out “Brain Age 2,” with a side of carrots, corn and peas in the shape of Tetris pieces a la Tetris DS. The cranberry sauce is chopped into blocks, I’m guessing to represent Picross, and the stuffing is stuffed with icons from Club House Games.
The creepiest part is not the odd look of the turkey and gravy but the Flash Focus eye logo in the middle of what looks to be a mini pumpkin pie on the TV dinner tray.
On the back is a bunch of information about the Touch Generations DS games featuring box shots of the games mentioned above. It’s all printed on what is supposed to be a TV dinner box.
And I just noticed something that might be creepier. On the back in small print are the words, “Try these other tasty offerings:” with Big Brain Academy, Nintendogs and Planet Puzzle League pictured next to the words.
Er, tasty brains and puppies?
Thank you, Nintendo?
