PS3 Wishlist for ChristmasWhile shopping around on the internet for upcoming PlayStation 3 games I came across this list by Roger Altizer on About.com. He listed his top ten PS3 picks for the Holiday Gift guide. Although he largely plays it safe with highly anticipated games of the year, some were righteously deserving to be on this list. Here are Altizer’s picks and a few of my own. And, if any of my friends are reading this article … if you plan to get me a game, read the list or may a lump of coal find your stocking on Christmas Eve.

  1. The Eye of Judgment. Altizer describes it as “an incredible game, but is one of the most original, and represents one of the best values you can find in PS3 gamine. Not only do you get a game the likes of which has never existed before, but you also get the new PlayStation Eye (PlayStation USB camera) included with it, as well as a deck of cards and a play mat.” This is on my “to buy” list, the commercials seem very appealing and it does combine my two favorite forms of gaming — trading card games and my PS3. This game is rated T for Teen.
  2. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction “is not only the prettiest game on the PS3, it may be one of the best looking on any system, ever. There is a reason that so many reviewers game this game a perfect score, it is a nearly perfect game,” Altizer said. The first Ratchet and Clank game was fun but I’m not certain I would put this on my own list just yet … maybe if I find a copy in the bargain bin. This game was rated E10+ for everyone over 10 and older.
  3. Guitar Hero III. This seems to be the hottest game series lately, so it was no surprise to find this on Altizer’s list. And I’m sure for those musically inclined gamers, this is a perfect buy for you, but not for those with no musical talent whatsoever like myself. My cat still hasn’t recovered from my rendition of Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer” on a guitar my brother left in my care last year. In fact, I don’t think my brother has forgiven me for breaking all the strings just before his show last year either. This game has been rated T for Teen.
  4. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. “Think Tomb Raider meets Indiana Jones meets Resident Evil 4 and you’ve got a good idea of how Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune looks and plays,” said Altizer. This is one that is definitely on my holiday wish list. The graphics look stunning and the story looks well-rounded from what I’ve read on this game. This game has been rated T for Teen.
  5. Assassin’s Creed. Simply gorgeous. Need I say more? This was a beautiful game from beginning to end. Each mission you complete will unravel more of the storyline, leaving players sitting on the edge of their seat guessing. With the intense stealth and battle missions, I thought this game should be number one on the list. A definite must have in any PS3 owner’s library of games. This game has been rated M for mature.
  6. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare “helps the venerable CoD franchise make the jump to contemporary combat and weapons. It does so with such flair that you may think that they’ve been making modern warfare games all along,” Altizer said. I have not played this game yet, but the graphics alone were stunning enough to grab my attention when the commercials first aired. It’s one that is also on my wish list, though not a top priority since I get sick pretty easily playing first person shooters. This game is rated M for mature.
  7. Warhawk found its way on Altizer’s list. I’m not a huge fan of online games and Warhawk is one of those online-only games for the PS3. So for those who don’t care for MMOs, I’d like to recommend another favorite of mine, Heavenly Sword. Stunning graphics, awesome gameplay and a storyline that keeps you fighting your way through King Bohan’s army just to administer your version of justice with the only person in the game that loves you, Kai. Who doesn’t love a cute, insane archer who can shoot a mean arrow or two into your enemies with her trusty Twing Twang? Warhawk is rated T for Teen and Heavenly Sword is rated T for Teen also.
  8. Need for Speed: ProStreet I loved playing this game at GameStop when it was in the display PS3. Way too much fun and way too much excitement involved in this game. Even Altizer admitted in his article that “this is the best racing game on the PS3, hands down.” This game has been rated E10+ for everyone over the age of 10.
  9. Medal of Honor: Airborne A good game on the list, unfortunately it took forever for me to complete because of motion sickness. If you get sick pretty quickly playing first person shooters, the dramatic scenery, sounds and brightness of the explosions will show you down. I could only play 30 minutes at a time. If you want this game I suggest taking several breaks throughout to avoid getting really sick. Other than that, this game is totally awesome and worth curling into a ball moaning “I will survive” by Gloria Gaynor until the room stops spinning. … Must finish … last chapter. … Irk. This game has been rated T for Teen.
  10. PS3 Blu-ray Remote. I know its not a game, but it’s a good mention by Altizer, and I agree that controlling a movie with the Sixaxis controller is a big awkward – heck watching DVD’s on the PS2 was awkward with a regular controller. This is definitely a must have if you plan to watch any Blu-ray movies on your PS3. And since everything else on this list has been rated, I’m giving my own to the remote: EPS3 for everyone who owns a PS3.

These are all definitely good ideas for the PS3 owner, enjoy and happy holidays.
