The themes are really easy to install. First connect your PSP to your computer with a USB cable. Then go to the folder on the PSP titled “PSP”. Create an additional folder in that folder called “THEME”. It has to be in capital letters like that, or it won’t work. After that is all done, just drag and drop all the themes you have downloaded into the “THEME” folder and disconnect. When you go to Theme Settings under Settings then all of your new themes are ready and waiting.
It is also easy to combine theme icons with an existing wallpaper. First, set a theme under Theme Settings. Then go to Photo and select Memory Stick. Then scroll down to and open the picture that you want as a new wallpaper. After that, press the triangle button to bring up the menu and choose to set the image as a wallpaper. At this point the familiar message will come up asking if you really want to set that as your new wallpaper. Say that you do, then exit. Now your PSP will have the icons from the theme you selected with your favorite wallpaper.
Already a wide variety of themes are waiting on the internet. Sony has a few official themes available to download for free from the Playstation Store. The fan-sites which have popped up have larger libraries of available themes though. PSP Themes, PSP Vault and PSP Theme Central all have tons of amazing themes created by some incredibly creative and artistic individuals.
Of course if you are really crafty, you can just create your own. A theme creator has been released by Sony in Japan, and it is completely in English and works with North American PSPs. A tutorial is available here to help you make .png image files to act as menu icons and create your first truly unique theme.
Personally I would have to say PSP Theme Central is the place to go. The themes there are not only look professional, but they’re really cool as well! My favorites there have to be the Windows XP theme, the Bleach theme, the sushi theme, the Kingdom Hearts theme and the Valkyrie Profile theme. They’re definitely worth checking out.
