While there is little doubt in the hearts and minds of most gamers that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots will be great, Sony is banking that MGS4 will be the system seller that will push PS3’s off of shelves and into the homes of consumers. However, recent rumors have suggested that MGS4 must sell 1 million units on it’s first day in order to cover the expensive cost of the game.

Despite the claims by Sony that MGS4 will remain a PS3 exclusive, the simple truth is, with fewer then 3 million PS3’s in the homes of American gamers and even less in Japan, there are growing fears that in order for Konami to turn a profit, they might have to take the final installment in the Metal Gear series over to Sony’s competitors, namely Microsoft’s Xbox 360. This move, if it happened, would no doubt hurt Sony’s own system sales as most gamers might be willing to wait to buy their copy of MGS4 on a cheaper system.

The forth, and last installment in the Metal Gear Solid franchise is still slated to be released in Q2 of 2008. Perhaps only then will we know if these rumors are fact, or fiction.
