Yet another casualty of the Writer’s guild strike, the upcoming film based on the popular Castlevania franchise has just been put on hold. Producer Paul W.S. Anderson (of such esteemed fare as Alien Vs. Predator) and Director Sylvain White (of Stomp the Yard fame) tried to rush production in order to beat the strike, but their efforts were in vain.
The script reportedly took place in “many time periods, but mostly 15th century Transylvania” and focused heavily on the Dracula mythos.
Honestly, considering the quality of nearly every videogame film, and the talent involved in this particular project, this news probably isn’t a bad thing. That is, unless you enjoy bad movies (this one was/is a rifftrax waiting to happen). There’s no word on whether the film will return to production after the strike, but I’m betting a few gallons of stage blood that it won’t.
