The Wii might be radically different but there is something that separates Xbox 360 from the other two consoles – the lack of any motion-sensing capability in its controllers. There are, however, some titillating rumors that Microsoft might just spruce-up the 360 controllers with all new motion-sensing capabilities.
The rumor comes from a fledgling website, Xbox Family, which hasn’t bothered to cite any sources. According to the website, Microsoft has contracted Saratoga-based firm Gyration to develop this new controller. It is the same company which had provided Nintendo with Wii-mote prototype designs that were politely turned down by the Big N. Microsoft might have decided to exploit Gyration’s expertise in motion-sensitive controllers, if it indeed harbors any gyrating-controller dreams.
However, a Microsoft rep expectedly told Next-Gen that the company doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation, when queried about the issue.
Don’t worry, Microsoft hasn’t dismissed the new motion-sensitive controller but just declined to comment. Such a controller is not really a bad idea and Microsoft should look to reinvent the Xbox 360 gaming experience as often as it can, so as to elongate its life cycle.
