Apparently the New York Times needed to make one more correction in it’s latest story on the Nintendo DS and Wii. The original story worded information that made it seem as though a DS version of the Virtual Console was in the works. Nintendo sources have discussed the issue with Gamasutra and Kotaku, and have stated that there are no plans to allow users to purchase and then download full DS games via the Wii.
The confusion stems from this particular quote in the original New York Times story by Eric A. Taub.
So in order to prevent further mix-ups, let’s get everything clear here. Virtual Console titles, which are complete games, can be downloaded and played on the Wii. These titles can not be sent wirelessly to the DS. However, there are future plans to have select DS game demos available for download to the Wii. These demos will then be able to be transfered to a DS. These DS demos will function in the same way as the ones downloaded from the download stations found in GameStops or Wal-Mart stores.
