Jon NEVERDIE JacobsSpace Pirates are alive and well in the virtual world as Jon Jacobs, also known as NEVERDIE in the Entropia Universe, has announced the first $5 million virtual treasure hunt in a game named Space Pirates. The event will take place during CES 2008 from the MindArk Entertainment booth at the Las Vegas Convention center and will be exclusive to the Entropia Universe.

On Thursday, January 9, 2008, Space Pirates, will become the launching site for the second annual Massive Multiplayer Online World Championships finals at the MindArk Entertainment booth starting at 12:00 p.m. with Jenna Star Mercury (USA) and Linden Avery (South Africa) battling for land on Planet Calypso which is worth more than $25,000 in U.S. dollars in real cash. The land areas on Planet Calypso will feature hunting and mining taxation rights that provides a monthly real world cash income. NEVERDIE, will provide the live play-by-play commentary of the tournament.

Jacobs, an entrepreneur and independent film director, is famous in Entropia and in the real world when he was featured in The Guinness Book of World Records for acquiring the most expensive virtual world item in 2005 after investing $100,000 on Project Entropia and has since earned half of his investments back (in real money) through his virtual club, Club NEVERDIE.

“CES has it all – gadgets, games and glamour. It’s like the electronics version of the Cannes Film Festival,” said Jon “NEVERDIE” Jacobs told BusinessWire. “I’m extremely excited to be riding the crest of the virtual worlds wave at CES this year.”

Space Pirates will be accessible to all virtual world members of Entropia Universe and will be open to new members interested in joining the adventure with a free avatar available at registration and no subscription fees applied to those participating in the treasure hunt. CES 2008 will act as a launching point for the expanded universe with new planets to explore and to also introduce a new assortment of space-related tools, equipment, blueprints, vehicles, treasures and artifacts to help a player’s avatar on their quest.
