PSP to play Blu-Ray moviesThere have been many rumors floating around the internet about the many possibilities for the PlayStation Portable system since it first hit the shelves, from video camera to a cellphone. One of the capabilities bloggers wanted to see happen was the ability to watch Blu-Ray movies on it.

It’s no longer a rumor

According to Melissa Perenson of PCWorld Sony gave demonstration of how to copy a Blu-Ray disc to a PlayStation 3 console and then copy it to a memory stick duo to watch on a PSP.

“This way, you can have a portable copy you can take with you,” David Bishop, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, explained to Perenson. “There was always the promise of greater interactivity. You’ll see that coming in the new year.”

Although some of (mostly me) love having a few UMD movies to tote along on trips, the idea of copying a few favorite Blu-Ray movies to take along is even more appealing to me personally.

The transfer details and firmware(s) release date(s) for this nifty feature have not been announced.
