Bad news for those who are chomping at the bit for Nintendo’s next big game – Super Smash Bros. Brawl has been delayed. GameDaily is reporting that the Wii brawler will now launch on March 9, 2008, about a month from it’s previous projected date. This isn’t the first time the game has been delayed – it was originally supposed to be available for Christmas 2007 (as per Reggie Fils-Aime’s E3 promises). According to the report, Nintendo is claiming that “development is taking slightly longer than expected.” due to all the extra content planned for the final title.
The news comes off of a big week of announcements over at the Smash Brothers Dojo (the oft-updated teaser site for the game), with the announcement of a new character: Captain Olimar from Pikmin and his stage, tentatively titled “Distant Planet”. For the uninitiated, the game is a four player free-for-all fighter starring characters from Nintendo franchises, complete with online play, a stage editor, and a sidescrolling single player mode. It’s also undoubtedly one of Nintendo’s biggest (and most feverishly anticipated) titles of 2008.
