Spore
Yesterday at the MacWorld Expo, EA announced that Spore, Will Wright’s newest “god game” will be coming to the Mac platform. The game will arrive at the same time as the PC version (TBD 2008), and will be coming to Macs through TransGaming’s Cider Portability Engine.

The game takes a page from Wright’s other creations (which include SimCity and The Sims) in allowing players to build their own worlds and share their creations. The game is built around the ability to create life and civilizations on new planets, and follow the evolution of species throughout literal galaxies. It will feature a fairly vast multiplayer universe, allowing players to explore other people’s creations and civilizations.

From the press release:

Spore is made up of five phases, each corresponding to a stage of evolution: cell, creature, tribe, civilization and space. Each phase presents different challenges and goals. You may choose to start with the cell phase and nurture one species from its humble aquatic origins to its evolution as a sentient species. Or you may decide to start building tribes or civilizations on multiple planets. What you do with your universe is up to you.”

Obviously, this is fantastic news for Mac owners who’d like to see their OS of choice become a viable gaming platform. Spore is looking quite tasty these days, lets hope a solid release date is announced soon.
