In Nintendo’s latest Professor Layton and the Curious Village press release, it was revealed that new puzzles will be released over the Nintendo WiFi Connection. Each week, starting with the week of February 10, 2008, when the game is released, and ending six months later in August, a new puzzle will be ready for downloading. This means that by August 10, 2008, players will have had access to 156 puzzles.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village is the debut of a series already famous in Japan in North America. It is a puzzle game with a vivid storyline as Professor Layton and his assistant, Luke, come to St. Mystere to find a treasure and solve an unexplained death. The game also features quite a few animated and voiced cutscenes. It also happens to be the latest game from Level 5, the creators of Rogue Galaxy.
Professor Layton has two things going for it that the other educational and puzzle games don’t – a vivid story and replayability. Those two forces put together will keep people playing Professor Layton, even when titles like Flash Focus and Brain Age have been tossed aside. Let’s hope the title does well so the other two entries in the series make it stateside.
