As if upcoming Wii brawler Super Smash Bros. Brawl wasn’t already retro-fantastic (or fanboy-exciting), Nintendo has just announced that the game will include demo versions of Virtual Console titles that feature the Smash Bros. characters. The demos will be available right on the game disc, with the intention of steering players towards purchasing said titles on the VC. The Smash Bros. Dojo site lists Super Mario Bros, Kirby’s Adventure, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda, Kid Icarus, Star Fox 64, and Super Metroid as the games getting the demo treatment.
The game is the third in Nintendo’s chaotic “fighter meets party game” series. Starring characters from famous Nintendo franchises (and a few other favorites, like Sonic and Solid Snake), the title is slated for release on March 9, 2008.
Is this what’s been causing all the delays? Probably not (most are betting the title’s online features are the source of that particular issue), but this is still a cool little idea (even if it does reek of a marketing gimmick). Thank goodness the game is going to come stuffed with features, since hardcore gamers won’t have many other Wii titles to play this March.
