Citing data from the NPD Group, the publisher claims it has sold more then 7 million units of the game since it launched in November of 2007. Developed by Infinity Ward, Call of Duty 4 was released across all platforms and was one of the most critically acclaimed titles of last year. It has already been nominated for a number of game-of-the-year awards, further raising COD4‘s status within the gaming community.
To add to the success of Call of Duty 4, it even managed to do the seemingly impossible, toppling Halo 3 on Xbox Live as the most played game. And with good reason, as Call of Duty 4 is one of the most addictive and fun online games out there.
These numbers will certainly speed the production of the fifth installment in the series, which is already said to be in development under the new partnership of Activision and Blizzard Entertainment.
