Some of the Populous DS Nintendo buildings
A recent revelation in the development of Populous DS introduces a brand new culture only available in the forthcoming DS version. It seemed this technologically advanced race, known as the Bit-plane civilization in the game, worshiped the accomplishments of the acclaimed developer/publisher Nintendo. It wasn’t enough to keep this love inside, as this society worked hard to construct great buildings in the images of Nintendo systems across the ages.

Populous DS should be arriving by the end of 2008, as the Japanese version will be released February 21, 2008. It is a civilization simulation brought to gamers by EA. The game begins with a new world, a blank slate, and the players can then develop two different societies there. The societies can develop different cultures and also interact with each other with interesting results. So far the introduced civilizations include the Bit-plane, Persians, dragons, cavemen, undead and Martians. I’m sure ordinary humans are probably included as well.

Everyone loves a good portable simulation – it can be a great way to kill a couple of hours on a train or bus. The Populous series is a solid franchise guaranteed to provide hours of fun for obsessive-compulsive perfectionist gamers with god complexes. The series has a long history, and has previously appeared on the PC, Sega Master System, Genesis, Super Nintendo, Turbo Grafx 16, Turbo CD and Game Boy.

  2. Yeah. It does look like it would be really cute.

Let's hope EA decides to release it outside of Japan.
