The competition, called the Xbox 360 Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, takes place over the next three months with the Buick being the first prize to be given away during Tiger Woods Buick Invitational Golf Tournament held in La Jolla, Calif. This is the first time Buick has participated in a videogame event.
According to Adweek, by giving away one car to the competition Buick hopes to attract up to 30 customers in the process. Buick’s marketing director, Maria Rohrer, told Adweek:
In the contest, players are awarded points for winning challenges in the game Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08. The requirements to participate include internet access, be at least 18-years-old or older and be a resident of the United States.
By connecting to the internet via Xbox 360, players will compete with others within Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 for a chance to win. Players must complete the required challenges posted in two daily GamerNet clips. The clips explain the challenges each player must accomplish to earn either a skill point or items they can use in the game. Players who beat all the requirements first will be offered double points. If thee is a tie, a tie-breaking challenge will be posted and players will have until 11:59 p.m. on February 9, 2008, to post a tie-breaking score.
To help promote the contest, Buick has bought web ads on EA Sports’ Web sites, Xbox.com and other gaming sites.
