CID the Dummy - looks a bit like Death Jr, no?

Crash Test Dummies were so 1990, but Oxygen Int. and Twelve Interactive are hoping to restore life to the inanimate dummy. CID the Dummy has been announced as an upcoming release for the DS, PC, PS2, PSP and Wii. It should be available by the end of 2008. It is designed to be a lighthearted platformer/action game for all ages. This may just be me, but when I first saw the press release and images, the first thing that leapt to mind was Death Jr., only with a dummy.

The game itself is set in a near future where Al Gore was right and Global Warming has really screwed things up. Crash impact dummies are everywhere and apparently are not only dummies, but robots as well. The scientist who made CID also made a dummy of his dead daughter, named M.I.A., which has been kidnapped by a rival, bad-guy scientist. CID is sent out to save M.I.A. and take down the bad scientist. Along with the standard storyline levels, there are also occasional crash test bonus levels.

Yet still the whole thing reminds me of Death Jr.. Both protagonists are bald. Both have dark environments with attempts at lighthearted humor. When both of those tidbits are combined with the CID the Dummy press release, which hints at weapons that can freeze or shoot fire, CID’s abilities to rope swing, the ability to destroy items in the various levels and the use of acrobatic moves, it makes me just want to shout, “Death Jr. already did it!”
