Da DukeLast Thursday (February 7, 2008), the Dallas Business Journal reported that Duke Nukem Forever will likely be completed by the end of the year, with only the possibility of extremely small delays looming. 3D Realms President Scott Miller said that, although this isn’t set in stone, he’s reasonably sure the game’s target platforms are now the XBox 360, Playstation3 and Duke’s old homeland, the PC.

Miller told the paper that he still couldn’t give a cemented release figure, but he was pretty sure the days of 3D Realms co-founder George Broussard’s infamous statement that DNF will be done “when it’s done” are over.

We can’t make an official announcement. Frankly, we may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we’re on target this time. It’s definitely an internal push.

Or is it? Broussard has struck back, telling Shacknews the Journal‘s claim was erroneous and taken from off-the-record information. “When it’s done” still stands.

The evidence so far seems to favor Miller’s claims, however, given December 2007 release of the first teaser since 2001. This also represents the first time that Broussard has told someone else within 3D Realms to, more or less “STFU, IMO” (as opposed to his denouncing Take Two back in 2003).

Given that 3D Realms has been showing more life in the past several months than they have at any time since they finished work on Shadow Warrior over a decade ago, there may actually be slight cause for optimism this time.
