Needs more HK

Back on Wednesday (February 13, 2008), Shacknews put up an Electronic Arts analyst report, revealing that Bioware could be making a new installment of the popular Knights of the Old Republic RPG series.

Indeed, a new Star Wars RPG of one kind or another has been speculated for months now. GamesIndustry.biz confirmed that the developer was working on a new game for Lucasarts back in October 2007 and 1UP cited the migration of employees from Sony Online Entertainment to Bioware as evidence that it could be a new MMORPG to replace Star Wars Galaxies, which has been subject to mixed reviews, at best.

According to a report by Eurogamer on Friday (February 22, 2008), though, it looks like we were all merely getting our hopes up. Apparently, the above-mentioned slide was just a showcase of past and present products each EA subsidiary has released and really isn’t an indicator of upcoming titles.

And while that’s nice and vague, leaving some hope, Lucasarts confirmed the MMO and shut down the KOTOR rumor, point-blank, when they gave a statement to IGN UK back on Thursday (February 14, 2008).

Yes, we are working with BioWare. We’ve announced that we’re working with the developer on a project, but it has nothing to do with Knights of the Old Republic.

Happy Valentine’s to you, too.
