Death Jr. is heading to the Wii

Possibly the best entry in the Death Jr. series, Death Jr.: Root of Evil, is going to be ported to the Wii. The game, which originally appeared on the PSP in 2006, will be heading to the console before the end of summer, 2008. Added material or levels were not confirmed in the press release, however a co-op mode for levels and new moves and combination attacks designed specifically with the wiimote controls in mind were mentioned. A rating and price also weren’t announced, but since the PSP version of the game had a “Teen” rating I think we can assume that will carry over.

In case you haven’t heard of or played any of the Death Jr. games, all of them are classic platformers starring Death’s son, Death Jr. and contain darkly humorous levels, characters and adventures. In Death Jr.: Root of Evil, Death Jr. and his friends are trying to collect cocoons for a school project. Death Jr. and Pandora end up fighting over the last one, and in the midst of the squabble it breaks and the evil plant woman Furi breaks free. Players then step in as Death Jr. and Pandora, you can choose one or the other or have two player co-op play, to make it through the levels and reseal Furi.

Death Jr.: Root of Evil is one of the best games on the PSP. It was one of the first titles I bought when I first got mine, and I simply adore it. However, I can’t see paying an inflated $39.99 or $49.99 for the Wii version when you can find the PSP version for around $12.99. It’s a two year old game and so far it doesn’t seem like anything new has been added to it.
