The chip manufacturer officially launched its new, powerful motherboard, codenamed Skull Trail, at the Game Developers Conference with one eye on affluent, geeky gamers and the other on game developers.
The motherboard, which supports two quad-core processors and as many graphic cards, has been formally christened “Intel Dual Socket Extreme Desktop Platform.” It supports a wide array of GPUs from both the Nvidia and ATI stables, including the latest Nvidia SLI and ATI CrossFire series of GPUs that support two or more graphic cards simultaneously.
Before this motherboard is the protagonist of your geeky dreams spare a moment for its price: It can be yours for the trivial sum of $650 – inflated by the use of FB-DIMM server memory – but you will have to spend another $1500 apiece for two quad-cores 3.2GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9775 processors and $400 each for two top-line graphic cards. Your arithmetic is as good as mine.
The board sports six USB 2.0 ports, two eSATA ports, Gigbit Ethernet and a Firewire port. Also there are five audio mini jacks and an optical output for Intel HD audio to complete your next-gen gaming experience.
If you buy this motherboard you will not have to glance over the system requirements of any PC game for sure. And if you are a game developer, rendering will be a breeze.
