Just a few days ago, in-game community tool provider, PlayXpert, announced its parntership with Vivox to provide in-game voice communication features to its users. It appears that Vivox’s voice technologies are in great demand in the Massively Multiplayer Online Gaming (MMOG) industry, as leading MMOG publisher Sony Online Entertainment has also chartered Vivox’s technologies for its games.
The two companies announced an agreement during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco that will ensure that gamers and guild mates in SOE games are never out of touch in both the real and virtual realms. Gamers will literally be able to talk through their avatars using in-game 3D chat.
The service will be available across the entire range of SOE games that currently includes EverQuest, EverQuest II, Star Wars Galaxies, PlanetSide and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.
A refreshing new feature is voice fonts that will convert your speech into your avatars voice to make in-game conversations seem realistic. If you are expecting an important call but are just glued to any SOE game, don’t worry. You will be able to receive your external calls in the game itself and never ever miss an important call again. The new scheme also promises voice mail options for gamers.
Players in North America will be able to avail for a special PIN allowing them to keep in touch with their guild mates using any landline or cellphone, while away from the game. The best part is that the services will be based on the Vivox Network so gamers don’t have to sacrifice their precious bandwidth.
