EA Sports boss, Peter Moore, has designs of world domination that he spelled out to UK trade journal Market for Home Computing and Games (MCV). Don’t worry he is not building a private militia to conquer the world, but is charting EA’s course to reclaiming the top spot among third-party developers. He confidently issued a warning to rival mega publisher Activision-Blizzard.
Moore believes that EA will leave Activision-Blizzard far behind on the back of a strong showing by its sports label EA Sports this year. “Consumers get a chance to vote at the cash registers, and what we’re seeing is that our games are as popular as ever. This is an area in which Activision-Blizzard really can’t compete with us,” a philosophical and audacious Moore told MCV in an interview.
Although he talked about the need of EA Sports going global and expanding its product portfolio beyond the mainstream market, he dismissed criticism that EA’s games weren’t innovative. The publisher has been on the crosshairs of game reviewers and gamers alike, who have time and again chastised it for releasing undercooked games. Especially many games in popular sports franchises like FIFA and NFL feel like the same old game except for some cosmetic changes.
Peter Moore appears characteristically confident, to the brink of being cocky, but if EA doesn’t improve the nose-diving quality of its games, it might just loose the trust of gamers for once and for all.
