Fubiz has just posted an awesome graphic depicting the evolution of Nintendo’s most popular characters. Mario, Link, and Donkey Kong are shown in every generation’s incarnation from the early arcade/NES days right up to their detailed Smash Bros. Brawl models. There are a few oddities (Donkey Kong appears in his Mario Kart form, yet Mario doesn’t, and some handheld iterations get thrown in to the “wrong” generation), but it’s a fun reminder of how far these characters have come.
The blog is mainly in French, so the comments section is a little confusing to anyone who snoozed during French class in high school, but the chart really speaks for itself. It’s interesting to note that the Gamecube era Link appears to be more Soul Calibur 2 than Wind Waker (as would be expected). A strange comment on Wind Waker’s place in the series, or just a mistake – you decide.
