Everybody Burger Time

My latest cross stitch creation was a very special gift for my mom. She too loves video games (my dad and her owned an original Intellivision), and Burgertime was one of her favorite classic titles. Once she heard I was making cross stitch creations from video game sprites, she asked if I could make one for her, and this was what I came up with. It features chef Peter Pepper being chased by a hot dog and an egg.

First off, I needed to find the appropriate sprites. So I visited The Shyguy Kingdom where there were perfect character sprites. I picked three, then enlarged them with Microsoft Paint. I’m not sure how long this one took me, as I didn’t time myself beforehand. I did finish in a single afternoon though, once I started. This piece, which I’m affectionately referring to as “Everybody Burgertime” also features the fewest colors out of all my pieces so far – 6. Only white, yellow, orange, red, peach and black embroidery floss were used.

This is my fourth video game cross stitch, and I think it was the easiest to complete so far. My previous pieces were a Link cross stitch, two characters from Little Nemo: The Dream Master and an angel Kirby piece. I’ve decided to start trying more challenging sprites, so my next cross stitch will be a prinny from Disgaea. Making cross stitch sprite creations is surprisingly relaxing and simple, so if you’re interested you may want to check out this previous Gamertell article.

  1. This cross stitch is amazing. If I had one of these it would be the only thing I would wear, as a loin cloth.

Burgertime is the monomyth of games. Distill any other game down to its essence, and you are just trying to make some burgers before the hotdogs murder you. That goes for life as well.

Not to draw attention away from this great work, but if you are a Burgertime fan, here is a video explaining how it is an allegory for class struggle. enjoy.
