If you love Nexon MMOs, then you’ll want to hit FilePlanet.com on March 5, 2008. People interested in the open beta for Mabinogi can sign up during the 24-hour play period only at FilePanet.com. The official Nexon press release also states that after that 24 hour period interested people can sign up at the official Mabinogi site. There are already over 7 million players in Asia, and 30,000 people signed up for the game’s closed beta. The press release promises that characters created during the open beta will be able to be saved during the game’s commercialization. Like all Nexon MMOs, you can play Mabinogi for free.
Mabinogi is being billed as a fantasy life mmorpg, where players earn experience through combat, magic and daily activities. For example cooking, composing music, casting magic and attacking monsters will all provide experience to grow. Your character can also take on jobs in the community to gain experience. Another interesting aspect is the ability to age. Each week a character will get older, up to the age of 17, and ability points can be earned up till age 25.
The press release states two specific areas where the open beta has improved over the closed beta. The most noticeable change is that there are more places to go. New environments are available and there are more dungeons. Also new skills have been added into the game, among them composing music, cooking, enchanting and meditation.
I am definitely interested. Wednesday morning I’ll be setting my laptop up to download the program while I’m gone. I hope it isn’t a huge download like Audition, whose size prevented me from playing and forced me to import a copy of Audition Portable, because I really think I’d love to play Mabinogi.
