Samurai Deeper Kyo boxart

One of the last quality titles for the Game Boy Advance is now available, and it isn’t one you’ll be finding in your local game store. Samurai Deeper Kyo, a top down action and fighting title based on the popular Japanese anime and manga series will be receiving a North American release. However the game is billed as an exclusive promotion for people who purchase copies of the full Samurai Deeper Kyo anime series DVD set.

Luckily, if you can order online, the retailer Right Stuf is selling the game on its own for $29.99. This game has slipped through the cracks, as Amazon reports that the full DVD and game set was originally released February 12, 2008. (Also worth noting – Amazon is selling the set for $71.99.)

It is an interesting take on the Streets of Rage style of fighting. You pick one of the Samurai Deeper Kyo characters, then progress through the levels hacking and slashing down opponents and bosses. Rather than being a side scroller, the action is viewed from overhead, which adds a nice change of perspective. It was originally created by Marvelous Interactive, which is famous for the Harvest Moon and Luminous Arc titles. It certainly looks great, and looks to be a nice final salute to a great system.
