Rumor: Metal Gear movie found its director

For years now, rumors have been circulating of a possible Metal Gear film, but little has actually come into focus as the popular franchise that was first introduced to fans back in the mid 1980s. Now with the June 12, 2008, PS3 release of the last chapter in the Metal Gear saga, Guns of Patriots, new rumors have surfaced that Kurt Wimmer, director of the cult hit 2002 sci-fi action movie Equilibrium might be in the running to direct a game-to-film adaptation.

According to Coming Soon, producer Mike De Luca has mentioned Kurt Wimmer as possible director for the Metal Gear Solid movie. The site stated that Wimmer would be meeting producers of the long-planned movie in the next couple weeks.

Wimmer’s last film, Ultraviolet, didn’t quit live up to the expectations of fans. If he is, indeed, in the running to direct a Metal Gear movie, then let’s hope that he is able to recapture that magic he first showed audiences when he directed Equilibrium. Regardless, Wimmer, with his flare for dramatic action, might be the perfect candidate to make perhaps the first truly good,game-to-movie adaptation. We can only hope.
