While DC Comic characters Batman and Superman have received most of the attention and money when it comes to comic-to-film adaptations, a number of lesser-known DC heroes have made it to the big screen. The latest of those lesser-knowns is cult DC anti-hero Jonah Hex who will be featured in his very own motion picture sometime in 2009.
The film is being headed up by writer-director duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, known for the 2006 film Crank. The pair told Shock Till You Dropthat they have already completed the full script to Jonah Hex. Tayler even said, “I think it’s the best script we’ve written.”
While Jonah Hex might not be known to many fans outside of comics, he has made a number of animated appearances over the years on the original Batman: The Animated Series and, most recently, Justice League Unlimited.
Created by John Albano in 1972, the physically deformed Jonah Hex was a mix of old school cowboys, Indians and a touch of horror. His original books were set entirely in the old west and were inspired by a number of the no nonsense spaghetti westerns that dominated that decade. If Neveldine and Taylor statement about the script is true, then Jonah Hex could be a very interesting movie. Let’s just hope it isn’t another Crank.
