Companion Cube fuzzies

A day with new Portal related news is a good day. The Valve Store website has finally restocked its stuffed companion cubes. Previously, when the Valve Store first carried stuffed companion cubes back in December, the items sold out nearly immediately. Kotaku reported that the entire stock of stuffed toys were gone in only 24 hours. There are two different designs, a large cube or cube dice, and each one costs $29.95.

The two stuffed items are pretty small when it comes down to it. The larger cube is 6″ x 6″ x 6″, and the fuzzy tiny cubes are reported to be 4″ x 4″ x 4″. There is quite a bit of detail on both, but I think the fuzzy dice cubes just look bigger. For some reason the angle and picture of the larger cube on the product page reminds me more of a katamari than a companion cube.

Personally, I wouldn’t spend that much on companion cubes. Let’s be frank, you can find the same, or better, quality replicas made by fans on eBay or Etsy. Or you could even find a pattern and make your own companion cube. If they were $19.95, I’d say go for one, but $29.95 seems excessive to me. On the other hand, I do like saying “companion cube fuzzies.”
