The fine feathered creatures known as chocobos will soon be infesting the Wii. Square Enix has announced that on July 8, 2008, Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo’s Dungeon will be released on the Wii. Chocobo’s Dungeon is an established rogue-like rpg series in Japan, with two previous titles appearing on the PS1. For its release outside of Japan, however, it is being grouped into the same catagory as the previous DS release Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales. A rating hasn’t been assigned to the game yet, but Square Enix has confirmed that it will retail for $39.99.

The story seems as adorable as the characters who star in it. A little chocobo, named Chocobo, and Cid are traveling the world searching for treasure, when they come upon a town where people lose their memories whenever the clock tower’s bell chimes. A boy named Raffaello has created a dungeon filled with the people’s memories, and Chocobo decides to accept the challenge of bringing everyone’s memories back.

A lot of extras look to be included in the game. The card game from Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales can be played against friends over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Mini-games are available in the Mog House. Also Chocobo can become a member of the Final Fantasy job classes.

I remember the Chocobo’s Dungeon series of games. I had the second one for the Playstation. They’re a series of interesting rogue-likes. Chocobo’s Dungeon 2, the only other title in the series released outside Japan, started a bit rough but ended up being a cute and fun game. That entry was also easier than the last rogue-like game released, Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer, so more people will probably be interested.
