An image from the official Okami site
Capcom has opened a new Okami Art website to compliment the Wii rerelease of the fan favorite title Okami. The website contains a galleries of both official and fan art, downloadable wallpapers, information on the upcoming Okami: Official Complete Works art book and a fan art contest. The contest details haven’t been officially announced, but all fan art that has been submitted count as entries for it.

Okami has always received quite a bit of attention from critics and players due to the game’s unique presentation, which included a story inspired by Japanese mythology and graphics inspired by Japanese ink illustrations, woodcuts and watercolors. It seems only natural that Capcom would want to create a place for fans to go and appreciate art from the game.

I really love how the whole website is handled. Each official image opens in the same window you’re browsing, and navigating the gallery is as simple as clicking on the image you’re viewing to bring up the next one. The ability to download each of the official images is also a nice touch. Its a beautiful website, and I’ve found it very relaxing as well.
