Nokia has rolled out the final version of the N-Gage service available on the N-Gage website. It can be downloaded using a PC or straight onto a compatible Nokia cellphone. Nokia had released a an early version of the site, called First Access, on February 4, 2008, to solicit user feedback.
The handsets that are currently compatible with the N-Gage application include Nokia N81, Nokia N81 8GB, Nokia N82, Nokia N95, and Nokia N95 8GB. Nokia will continue to add more handsets to the list and, maybe, a few low-end ones if possible.
The N-Gage interface is idyllic and mirrors that of the Xbox Live. Gamers can connect with each other using the N-Gage Arena community that features multiplayer gameplay, tournaments, competitions, friends list, online discussions and instant messaging etc.
The currently available games through the service include FIFA 08, Brain Challenge, Asphalt 3: Street Rules, World Series of Poker Pro Challenge, Hooked On: Creatures of the Deep and System Rush: Evolution.
All available games can be viewed in a section called the Showroom and are priced between $9 and $15 to buy.
It is too soon into the launch of the N-Gage application for anyone to properly judge it and a clearer picture will only emerge in the next couple of weeks.
A final note: N81 users can be expected to enjoy the best gaming experience as the cellphone is apparently tailor-made for gaming.
