The World Ends with You hasn’t even been released yet, but I’m already a huge fan. I adored the Japanese version, Subarashiki Kono Sekai: It’s a Wonderful World, and was ecstatic when Square Enix announced it was being prepped for a US and European release. To celebrate the release, I wanted to do a cross stitch of one of the game’s sprites, because the art style really sucked me in. I decided that, since DS sprites can be a bit complex, to go with a very simple and classic Samba Pig.
The Pig noise enemies are incredibly frustrating, as they never attack and only try to escape battles. They drop awesome badges, so its worth seeking them out, but at times can only be defeated by certain abilities. I thought it would be easy to create a Samba Pig cross stitch, but I was somewhat surprised.
There are five different shades of red and pink in the ‘tattooed’ portions of the pig, and two shades of peach used in its body. The actual sprite from The Spriters Resource was a bit vague when it came to colors in the legs, ears and tail, so I had to improvise quite a bit to make it look right.
Next week is going to be possibly the most intricate cross stitch I’ve had featured at Gamertell. It is going to be two Naruto sprites from the DS title Jump Ultimate Stars. After that, I’ll probably do some simpler cross stitches to recover.
Other finished cross stitches appearing on Gamertell include:
- Nils and Ninian from Fire Emblem
- Mudkip
- Ice Climbers
- Hamtaro from Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite
- Etna from Disgaea
- Prinny from Disgaea
- Peter Pepper, Mr. Egg and Mr. Hot Dog from Burgertime
- Link and Navi
- Nemo and a frog from Little Nemo: The Dream Master
- Angel Kirby from Kirby Squeak Squad
