Affordable Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI comes to PCs

Koei has officially announced that the PC version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI will be released in North America. The game was previously released for the PS2, and now the PC port will be available in all video game retailers on July 29, 2008. Like other Romance of the Three Kingdoms games, RTK XI puts users in charge of a kingdom of territories in China, this time during the Han Dynasty. The best part of this news is the price – it will only cost $19.99.

So basically you run your territories and try to expand your power so you have total control of China. Its really a very involved process. You have the ability to run almost every aspect of your kingdom, from building economic centers, to interacting with other territories, declaring wars and creating government policies.

I think PC is a better fit for the series than a console. I used to play Romance of the Three Kingdoms back in the old days (think NES/Genesis era). It was fun and all, but somehow I enjoy games of that sort more when I’m sitting at a computer. Perhaps people’s brains are wired to correlate simulations with sitting in front of a laptop eating Corn Pops straight from the box. What – you don’t do that?

I have to say, the ambient music on the official site for RTK XI is quite pretty. It’s called “Haru no houga,” and regrettably only lasts 46 seconds. Its a shame, because its very soothing. It almost makes me want to rip the sound and have it playing in a constant loop while I work or keep replaying it on the webpage.
