The official Marvel Kids site has a brand new application which is a great distraction for anyone with an internet connection and anywhere from 10~20 minutes. It’s a “Create your Own Super Hero” program, which lets you piece together different parts to create your own hero or heroine.
You may think it’s just like the countless other doll makers that you might find online, but it’s not. It’s better. After choosing one of three body types, you are given a blank template. There are quite a few accessory and accent options, and each one starts out blank when they appear on the character. After you’ve selected the items you want to appear on your character, you can color him or her using practically any color you want. You can use offered color swatches, or pick a hue from a color scale. This aspect alone guarantees character individuality.
After your creation is complete, you can save it, print it, send it to a friend or download it to your desktop. I dare you to print out your hero and put it up at your workspace. I’d do it – my coworkers already know I’m weird and it would add some color to my desk.
This could also be a great creative tool. Think about it, if you’re an artist or author and you have a character in mind, but can’t seem to figure out some of the details, then the Marvel Kids super hero application could provide some much needed inspiration. Or it could be a fun, stress relieving distraction at the end of the day. If you want to give it a try, but aren’t sure what you’d want to do, then check out the SciFi-Meshes forum. Many users there have already started creating and displaying their characters.
