Sega has announced that the DS title Dinosaur King, based on the Japanese card game and anime of the same name, will be released in the US. The game has players act as either Max or Rex in trying to stop the villainous Dr. Z and his Alpha Gang. It will be released in September, 2008.
The game will feature a modest dinosaur collection. I mean, its no Pokemon, but its not bad. There are 70 different dinosaurs in the game with 240 different moves, five different locations to visit and fossil excavation mini-games. There will also be multiplayer Wi-Fi for dinosaur battles.
The Dinosaur King card game (also from Sega) came first, back in 2005 in Japan. It was so successful that it spawned an anime series, which has even been translated and aired as one of the Fox 4Kids cartoon shows. I’ve never heard if it before now, but it must be pretty popular among kids for Sega to localize the DS game for a North American release.
